As an introduction, let me say something first about this specialization course. Social Media Marketing has 5 courses that was created by Randy Hlavac, a professor of Northwestern University.
Each course has different topics that students must study and activities that must be done online.
To receive the specialization certificate and to become a social media specialist, a student must pass the 5 courses including the social media marketing capstone.
As I look into it and with my first experience with the first course, students will learn a lot because Randy is an expert when it comes to social media marketing. According to the university website, aside from being a lecturer in the Medill IMC department, he is also the CEO of Marketing Synergy. So what does it mean, his students are in his good hands because of his vast knowledge in social media.
So what are the 5 courses in this specialization course?
Course 1 - What is social?
Course 2 - The importance of listening
Course 3 - Engagement and Nurture Marketing Strategies
Course 4 - Content, Advertising and Social IMC
Course 5 - The Business of Social
Social Marketing Capstone project.
Each course last 4 - 6 weeks of learning. When I took course 1, I spent 4 - 5 hours a week for each module. There were lectures done by Randy together with some invited experts. There were also quizzes, online discussions, and what I like most were the assignments.
He also provided tools for his students to become more engage in the course. You can also download the lectures so you can watch it without having internet connection.
Last year, I received my verified certificate of my first course. It has the logo of the university, and the signature of Professor Hlavac. Here is the picture of my course 1 certificate:
Right now, I am into course 2, and I am still learning a lot about social media marketing. I am looking forward to finish the five courses including the capstone project.
